Out: Huge high rises mingle with five-story walkups, even on the north side of 96th St . It almost looks kind of ridiculous.
The people outside are about ½ white and ½ black/Hispanic, but even though this is technically now the UES and not Spanish Harlem, the stores are not that much more upscale…but it’s clear you’re getting there. The streets are also noticeably cleaner.
In: Station is decently lit, with a weird window from the mezzanine looking down onto the platform. On the platform it is a bit grubby, though. Almost everyone in the station is heading downtown, and are either white or well-dressed black/Hispanic.
