1 Train - 79 St. (Day 1, stop #25)

Out: Very similar feel to 86th St.  Still very residential, with large, majestic apartment buildings along Broadway, with more brownstones present along the side streets east of Broadway.  To the west there are still large apartment buildings, maybe somewhat less majestic but still large.  There are a couple of large retail stores here including Circuit City and Filene’s basement, but for the most part the stores are the typical NY mix with a somewhat upscale, but established, feel.  People are mostly white and upper class.

In: Station in decent condition, but definitely not particularly nice.  2 plat, 4 track layout with express bypass.  Platform is fairly narrow.  No mezz and no crossover; small booth area right next to plat.  The walls are made of large rectangular tile with “79th St.” periodically painted in black lettering on part of the plat; others have white tiles with mosaic tile station name.  At least there are some small pieces of artwork
